ABOUT

Born in Niterói, Brazil in 1990, Rodrigo Martins started taking music lessons from the early age of six years old. At eleven, he began playing drums and joined bands at school, playing shows whenever it was possible.

In 2008, Martins and four friends started a band called “Banda Tereza”. While Rodrigo began studying Graphic Design at UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), Banda Tereza started to take off. They played many shows around Rio and gained a significant following. That led the group to eventually record two studio albums, tour the country and play major music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Planeta Atlantida. They appeared on popular Brazilian TV programs like Altas Horas and Programa do Jô and channels like MTV, Multishow and GNT. Banda Tereza won a Multishow Award for Best New Band in 2012. They currently have more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.

While the band recorded their first album, Rodrigo undertook an interest for the production aspect of the recording process, which inspired him to learn how to use Ableton Live and study more about recording and mixing. During this time, he recorded the soundtrack for the YouTube channel Jout Jout Prazer (2.1 million subscribers). Rodrigo also produced the song Funk do Cajado for a video on the same channel, which went viral (2.2M views). As a result of that, Spotify reached out to Jout Jout Prazer and created a four song deal, that was released exclusively on the streaming platform. The songs Biscoito (2.4M views on YouTube) and Funk do Cajado both went #1 on Spotify Viral Charts, Funk das Entradas (880k views) reached #2 and Funk do Zodíaco (770k views), #3, all produced by Martins.

In 2016, Rodrigo took the Berklee Online classes “Composing and Producing Electronic Music”, “Critical Listening” and “The Art of Mixing”. In 2017, he produced the album Casas by the Brazilian artist Rubel, which was nominated for a 2018 Latin Grammy Award for Best Rock or Alternative Album in Portuguese. Meanwhile, he also produced the first solo album by Rebeca, an ex contestant on The Voice Brasil, set to be released in May of 2019.

Rodrigo Martins is currently studying Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music.
